This main parameter determines the doctrine which in turn will determine the choice of strategy which in turn will determine the choice of the appropriate weapons systems which in turn will determine the victory on the battlefield. This main parameter is the geographical Map (please read the analysis entitled “The Parameter that Determines Each Time the Doctrine & The Strategy on the Battlefield”).

Because military power is a relative rather than an absolute size determined by the geographical map and the environment in which the battle will take place, which will then determine the other parameters, in a combat battle the one most appropriately adapted these parameters, wins. That is, on the geographical map and the type of war that will be waged.

So since the geographical map determines the defense of an island country (eg Taiwan, Japan) or an Archipelago with many islands (eg the Philippines, Indonesia) and the geographical area of the battle is relatively small and the missile range is very large, no costs are required on expensive platforms of ships or planes but, small costs mainly on guns and rocket launchers.

In such a relatively geographically limited environment, combat artillery can act as a complement or mainly as a substitute for the Air Force in strike missions, with the acquisition costs being a small fraction of the costs that would incur for acquisition, support, maintenance and utilization of the respective aircrafts. At the same time, the combat artillery eliminates the possibility of Defense to the opponent.

This is why the structure of an Archipelago, for example, the Archipelago of Philippines, Indonesia, Japan, but also Taiwan and other parts of the world with countries that possess an Archipelago, such as Sweden and Greece, bring to the fore the role of power projectors in a combat artillery with the ability to conduct missile-central war.

Battle artillery and missiles central war

The missile central warfare focuses on the fact that the desired destructive effects on the opponent are usually exerted by the missiles. Missile launching platforms such as airplanes, ships, submarines, guns, simply operate in missile service.

The combat artillery is expected to remain the cornerstone of power projection (Bergan, B (2020), as today the armaments industry offers missiles with a range of 80 km (Diehl Defense, 2019 “Volcano Precision-Guided Munition-Qualification, Ready for Fildering” www.diehl.com”), for 155 mm guns.

The new generation of missiles being tested uses solid fuel engine technology (ramjet), without mechanical parts, that allow the missiles to move outside the classic orbit, enabling the user to hit moving targets at distances of up to 100km (Bergan, 2020 “Solid Fuel Ramjet Engine Tests to Extend artillery Range More than 60 Miles” www.interestingengineering.com).

In missiles of this new generation, intelligent GPS sensors are already used, which in the context of a central warfare network receive information from regular data networks and are able to create Anti Access/Area Denial (A2/AD) to entire fleets (Ong. 2020, “Analysis: 155mm Wheeled Mobile Howitzers Could Become Anti-Ship Artillery”, www.navalnews.com).

The ramjet technology missiles – a mixture of missiles and rockets – have a range of 150 km and hit targets with astonishing accuracy of a few centimeters.

In addition, HVP super-velocity missiles can be used from 155mm in an anti-ballistic missiles roles without carrying explosives and travel at speeds of up to 2Km/sec (mach 5), destroying fast-moving incoming ballistic missiles of long-range using artificial intelligence to instantaneous forecast of their future position (Osborne 2020 “Massive breakthrough: 155mm Howitzer artillery destroys incoming cruise missile”, Fox News).

Given the expansion of the range of the new rockets to 150-300 km, it is understood that the island structure of an Archipelago may become the most dangerous geographical area on the planet, for an attacking country, capable of creating a grid-of-grids anti-access/area denial for the surface vessels (such a system has been chosen by Sweden for its own Archipelago).

The technological possibilities described above, when combined with new operational doctrines, such as the refusal of contact with the enemy air force and the islands of the archipelago, are framed by new systems of central air defense network of high capabilities and high survivability, make the battle artillery a major shaper of developments.

According to this strategy, the Battle Artillery transforms the structure of the Archipelago into a single naval and land combat unit, in which the attacker inside this area has minimal to zero chances of survival. At the same time, it gives its users huge potential for shock absorption, as due to the proximity of the islands and the long range of ammunition, one area strengthens the other, while at the same time creating great potential for power projection on the opposite coast.

For a country that owns a network of islands or an Archipelago such as the Philippines, Japan, Indonesia, French Polynesia, Australia, etc., but also…

[2362,2845,7
2951,2353,2952,2358,1821
post-6238","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-military-science","category-military-strategy-doctrines","category-research","tag-archipelago","tag-artillery","tag-china-sea","tag-doctrine","tag-missiles
["GET
