In comparison, the U.S. Navy’s battle force is approximately 293 ships as of early 2020.

2. Land-based conventional ballistic and cruise missiles:

The PRC has more than 1250 ground launched ballistic missiles (GLBMs) and ground-launched cruise missiles (GLCMs) with ranges between 500 and 5500 Kilometers. The United States currently fields one type of conventional GLBM with a range of 70 to 300 kilometers and no GLCMs.

The consequences are worse than the text of the report suggests, with four conventional types of mobile missiles pose a serious threat to access for the U.S. Navy in the Indian-Pacific Ocean field.

a) The DF-26 intermediate-range ballistic missile, aimed at targeting US Navy aircraft carrier strike teams at 4000km.

b) The DF-21 MRBM has a similar role but half a range (2000 km) compared to the DF-26.

c) The DF-17 hypersonic missile with unknown active range (possibly 5500km).

d) The DF-10/10A cruise subsonic missile mounted on an 8×8 transport vehicle. It is used against attacks near China’s adjacent seas.

3. Integrated Air-Defense systems:

The PRC has one of the world’s largest forces of advanced long-range surface-to-air systems- including Russian built S-400 & S-300, and domestically produced systems – that constitute part of its robust and redundant integrated air defense system architecture.

This includes domestic manufacturing SAM and long-range missiles as well as high-frequency radars.

The Office of the Secretary of Defense rightly believes that China’s total military spending is higher than the official disclosures of its defense budget. The same applies to the official figures of China’s Sovereign Debt and Local governments equally.

If China manages to introduce Artificial Intelligence technology for use in battlefield applications, then there will be a further technological leap for the PLA.

In addition, China appears to be successfully covering the ground between it and the U.S. in terms of unmanned systems, including UAVs, operational swarms of drones, high-altitude combat and surveillance aircraft and UCAVs with engines.

PLA land systems and missile artillery possibly outweigh NATO’s firepower in strength and volume, respectively. On the part of China’s military-industrial sector there is a huge volume of capacity to develop current generation equipment.

The fact that China came out very quickly-in the first quarter of 2020, and almost unscathed from the Covid-19 pandemic, and is also the only economy to grow at a rate of 4% of GDP for 2020, gives it a great comparative advantage for stable growth for the coming decade, where in this case expecting in early 2030 its nominal GDP to reach $28trillion versus $14trillion (2019) enabling it to launch in huge sizes military expenditures.

The annual report issued by the Office of the Secretary of Defense and sent to Congress entitled “Military and Security Developments Involving the People’s…

[1808
161,2240,129,1821,2239,2237,1914,2236,2241,2238,2242
post-3767","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-defense-space","tag-china","tag-congress","tag-gdp","tag-missiles","tag-office-of-the-secretary-of-defense","tag-pla","tag-shipbuilding","tag-u-s","tag-u-s-navy","tag-uavs","tag-ucavs
["GET
