None of the prerequisites that the EU has as a criterion for starting Albania’s accession negotiations has been met by all of Albania’s governments to date.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The rule of law achieved through a series of reforms in the Judiciary has not been sufficiently promoted. Corruption, drug trafficking and organised crime in general, together with money laundering, are main factors that are contributing to the political life of parties in Albania.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the “face” of Albania many member countries see the issues of illegal immigration, trafficking and imported crime becoming of great political importance to their citizens.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Presidential elections will be held in France in 2022, so French President Emmanuel Macron does not want to increase the popularity of her opponent Marie Le Pen’s stronger policy of targeting illegal immigration accompanied by imported crime.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In such a case, he understands a large proportion of right-wing voters will head for Marie Le Pen’s party.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Germany, for its part, has parliamentary elections in 2021 and for the same reasons as France do not want to make political openings to Albania so as not to strengthen the far right in Germany.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
