Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) announced that the German Navy has successfully conducted a test firing of its Naval LORA (Long Range Artillery) ballistic missile. According to the statement, two missiles were launched, which followed the predetermined course, were guided to the targets and successfully hit them. At the same time, it was found that the launcher and the missile command and control system operated smoothly and without problems. The targets were not announced, but the IAI statement states that the test demonstrated the Naval LORA’s ability to attack targets at long distances, at sea and on land.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Naval LORA missile is a version of the LORA (surface-to-surface ballistic missile), which first appeared in 2003. In addition to Israel, the missile is also in service with Azerbaijan. LORA has a diameter of 624 mm, a length of 5.2 m and a launch weight of approximately 1,600 kg. It can carry a payload of up to 570 kg (warhead, conventional or multi-purpose). It uses an inertial navigation system, while in the terminal phase the guidance is done remotely, via a camera. The missile achieves a maximum range of 430 km, moves at supersonic speeds (up to Mach 5), and has an accuracy of 10 meters at a maximum range of 430 km.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It also has the ability to maneuver in flight and change data, also in flight, for a possible change of target or avoidance of a specific course. LORA can be launched either from a naval platform (warship or merchant ship), or from a land launcher, or from an aircraft (Air LORA version). The land-based launcher requires only 10 minutes of preparation for launch and three minutes for transportation from one launch site to another, thus providing high survivability on the modern battlefield and in a saturated electromagnetic environment.
