KAWS, who emerged from the graffiti scene of the 1990s, is recognized for modifying advertisements and posters with his signature pattern of crossed-out eyes. The figures of COMPANION, attributed to sculpture and painting, reflect the increasing permeability between commercial imagery and contemporary art. The exhibition brings their works into dialogue with figures such as Roy Lichtenstein, Keith Haring, Jean-Michel Basquiat, and Kenny Scharf, and their own vibrant, cartoon-inspired visual language. As a result, Albertina Modern Museum highlights the way in which the above artists questioned the distinctions between high culture and street art, but also the role of comics as a global visual language, capable of addressing a wide audience.

April 3 – September 27, 2026

BOSTON (MASSACHUSETTS) – USA

Exhibition: «Derrick Adams: View Master»

Working in painting, collage, sculpture, performance, drawing, and video, multifaceted artist Derrick Adams celebrates the richness and complexity of African-American life. Through bold colors, references to pop culture, and African-American artistic traditions, he depicts stories and scenarios that are sometimes humorous, sometimes make political statements, and sometimes take on a dual role. The exhibition “View Master,” which opened in April at the Institute of Contemporary Art in Boston, is the first survey of Adams’ work, bringing together over 100 works created over the course of his 20-year career as well as new creations. Filled with botanical imagery created from turquoise, pink and sunny gold hues, her canvases evoke the explosive carnival culture of the Caribbean, with references to her West Indian heritage. Largely abstract, Yearwood-Dan’s works are distinguished by their thematic breadth and are often embellished with gold leaf, beads and engraved texts of poetry or the artist’s own diary writings. Her first exhibition in 2025 is followed by this one at the Whitworth this year – her first solo show in the UK. This disturbing phenomenon is now entering the art world, with the major group exhibition “Manosphere: Masculinity Now”, which opened its doors at the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam a month and a half ago. According to the curators, the exhibition asks questions such as “what does it mean to be a man today?” and “if we imagined masculinity itself as a sphere, what would be inside it?”, while promising to expose masculinity as both an expression of power and a lived reality that can be from contradictory to tender. In each case, the answers and perspectives illuminated come from works in the Stedelijk’s permanent collection, along with loans and new commissions from contemporary artists such as the British painter Lucy McKenzie, historical names such as the Scottish sculptor Eduardo Paolozzi, and many Dutchmen, such as the post-war painter Melle.

April 18 – August 2, 2026

Exhibition: «KAWS: Art & Comix» At the intriguing intersection of contemporary art, comics, and pop culture stands the exhibition “KAWS: Art & Comix,” exploring…

[1209,1188,1157
2926,2131,3106
post-29341","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-exhibitions","category-arts","category-culture","tag-art","tag-exhibition","tag-glances-at-the-art-world
["GET
