Nowhere is this more evident than in the reactions of Moscow and Beijing. What was supposed to be a genius strategy for Trump and Netanyahu has turned out to be a lesson for the other two great powers in American desperation, panic, desperate lies, constantly contradictory excuses and, most importantly, the complete destruction of their own credibility in international diplomacy.

Just a year ago, there was cautious optimism in Moscow. Trump had promised diplomatic solutions during the election campaign and kept his word, at least initially. He resumed direct talks with Moscow after three years of total radio silence under Biden. He spoke openly of ending the war in Ukraine “within 24 hours.”

From the Russian perspective, this was a clear sign that Washington had a vital interest in pulling Russia away from China and onto its side in the global balance of power, rather than driving it further into Beijing’s embrace. Moscow had seen Trump’s simply structured plan, against the backdrop of fanatically Russophobic European leaders, as opening up many opportunities for creative diplomacy aimed at unbalancing the Europeans. However, Russia’s hopes for a bilateral deal with the US have now been dashed. Russians now wonder “whether Trump’s diplomacy was just a trap.” The war in Iran provides the ultimate proof. Twice in a year, Washington has abused diplomacy as cover for surprise attacks.

In the meantime, Moscow has reaped the bitter consequences and is in the process of rewriting the entire history with Trump. Was he ever seriously interested in easing relations between the two countries? Or was he simply stalling Moscow to buy time? Russia has learned that US diplomacy under Trump is no longer reliable since it aims to restore hegemony. Any negotiation could be the prelude to the next blow.

The Chinese leadership, for its part, is watching the same spectacle, only with even greater horror. Not only because of the complete disregard for international law and the rules of war. But above all because of the merciless destruction of the global economic order. The attack on South Pars, the world’s largest natural gas field, is not an isolated military strike, but the “literal burning” of the global economy. Everything is literally burned.

Trump has already canceled his planned meeting with Xi Jinping in April. His original plan was clear: He wanted to show up in Beijing with a ready-made “regime change success in Iran”, present it as a trophy and put pressure on Xi with new US control over Iran and the Strait of Hormuz. Instead, Washington is now stuck in the chaos it itself caused in the Strait of Hormuz. China sees the same pattern as Russia: The US is desperately trying to stop its relative decline and strengthen its position against the other great powers, and in doing so, with its ideology of “after us, the cataclysm,” is destroying the very international system it has dominated for decades.

Beijing sees not only military absurdity but also economic madness. The blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, the explosion of global energy prices, the deindustrialization of Europe, none of these are collateral damage, but direct consequences of a panicked superpower that only creates chaos. The common finding: US chaos is bringing Russia and China even closer together, as the perspectives of Moscow and Beijing merge into one and the same diagnosis. Both powers are learning the same lesson: The US no longer acts out of strength, but out of fear. They have become unpredictable, they lie openly (just remember the disgusting-ridiculous claim that the Iranians bombed their own little girls with Tomahawk missiles), they ignore international rules and they sacrifice the global economy on the altar of their own hegemony or rather stupidity.

Today, exactly the opposite of what Trump wanted to achieve is happening: Instead of separating Russia from China, he is bringing the two closer together. The Iran war is becoming the catalyst for a multipolar world order that Washington can no longer stop, but only accelerate. The US has forgotten the lesson of history: Those who want to stop their decline by force only accelerate it.

What is particularly bitter for Brussels: The Old Continent is paying the highest price. After years of Russophobia and complacent “liberation” from Russian energy, Europe is now doubly isolated. Qatari LNG and Middle Eastern oil are being cut off, energy prices are exploding. The deindustrialization that began with the war in Ukraine is reaching a new, deadly level.

And here is where the indirect benefit for Russia arises. Even hard-line Russophobic leaders are suddenly calling for normalization with Moscow. Europe already buys Russian oil anyway, via India at high rates and premiums. The hypocrisy is collapsing. It is obvious even to the most foolish: Europeans ultimately cannot live without Russian energy. The war in Iran is forcing them back to the negotiating table with Moscow.

All that remains to complete the puzzle is for the Europeans, now thirsty for energy, to start buying Russian natural gas en masse again, now including Russia in a European security architectural plan, thus uniting Eurasia (EU-Russia-China). This is Trump’s “genius” policy.

Less than four weeks after the outbreak of war, the decline of the United States is in free fall, visible to the world.
