The United States is going to get \u201cvery aggressive\u201d in Venezuela\u2019s oil sector after the operation to capture the country\u2019s leader, Nicol\u00e1s Maduro, President Donald Trump said on Fox News on Saturday, January 3, 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As he noted, \u201cWe have the biggest oil companies in the world, the strongest, the best, and we\u2019re going to get very aggressive in that.\u201d With this move, the US president opens up the country\u2019s vast reserves to American companies that will significantly control the global supply of \u201cblack gold.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On the other hand, he is taking symbolic revenge for the seizure of American assets by the Bolivarian republic while sending a signal to China and Russia that he wants to have a dominant position in the energy sector. In a press conference later, referring to Venezuela\u2019s vast oil reserves, he said: \u201cWe are going to send our very large American oil companies \u2014 the largest in the world \u2014 to invest billions of dollars, to repair the severely damaged infrastructure, the oil infrastructure, and to start generating revenue for the country.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What actions has the US taken to restrict Venezuelan oil exports? US forces intercepted and seized an oil tanker off the coast of Venezuela on December 10. The ship was reportedly flying the flag of Guyana, but the country\u2019s Maritime Authority denied any connection.
