The new Epstein files are causing an earthquake and global revulsion, with allegations of \u201ctampering\u201d material, selective leaks and heavy censorship. Names of the famous and powerful are coming back to the fore, while public opinion is talking about a cover-up and political protection. The question is no longer what is hidden in the documents, but who and why decided what we will see and what not.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The calendar turned to February 2025 when a group of 15 right-wing influencers visited the White House and paraded through folders marked \u201cThe Epstein Chronicles: Phase 1\u201d \u2013 only to discover that they contained little new information.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ten months later, it was the world\u2019s turn. Amidst huge global anticipation on Friday (19\/12), the US Justice Department released hundreds of thousands of pages of documents related to the late financier and convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Epstein Files: Lots for Clinton, Little for Trump \u2013 Thousands of Documents with Blacked-Out Text<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe Trump administration is the most transparent in history,\u201d said Abigail Jackson, a White House spokeswoman, insisting that it \u201chas done more for [Epstein\u2019s] victims than Democrats have ever done.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, it soon became clear that, once again, Donald Trump had promised too much and delivered too little. Many of the documents released were heavily redacted, with text blacked out to make them impossible to read. Norm Eisen, executive chairman of the Democracy Defenders Fund, said: \u201cWhat they have released is clearly incomplete and appears to have been over-edited.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Among the excerpts that were blacked out were a list of 254 \u201cmasseurs,\u201d whose names are being withheld \u201cto protect the victim,\u201d and 119 pages of a court document from a New York court that have been blacked out without explanation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The documents contained many photos of former President Bill Clinton, a Democrat, and appeared to include few, if any, photos of Trump or documents mentioning him, despite his well-known friendship with Epstein in the 1990s and early 2000s.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Furthermore, yesterday\u2019s release was far from complete. Deputy U.S. Attorney General Todd Blanch said that \u201cseveral hundred thousand\u201d documents would be released on Friday, but the need to protect victims meant that thousands more would be released over the next two weeks. The initial release also appeared to include far less than Blanch had promised.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So there was a suspicion of a cover-up. And Trump\u2019s rare reticence did little to dispel that impression. At a White House event on Friday with pharmaceutical companies that had agreed to lower some of their prices, the US president \u2013 \u200b\u200bwho is usually very talkative on any subject \u2013 refused to answer reporters\u2019 questions that were not related to the event\u2019s topic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trump said: \u201cI prefer not to talk and not to ask questions just because it\u2019s such an important announcement. I really don\u2019t want to tarnish it with questions, even questions that are very fair and I would love to answer. So I think we should stop there.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The US president had spent much of the year resisting the disclosure and denouncing the files as a \u201cDemocratic hoax.\u201d But a rare bipartisan rebellion in Congress forced him to back down and sign legislation last month mandating the disclosure of all of Epstein\u2019s unclassified files by December 19 in a searchable and downloadable format. His administration missed that deadline, and Democrats protested.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer said: \u201cThis series of heavily redacted documents released by the Justice Department is only a small part of the total evidence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Simply releasing a mountain of redacted pages violates the spirit of transparency and the letter of the law. For example, all 119 pages of one document were completely redacted. We need answers as to why.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jeff Merkley, the lead sponsor of the Epstein Transparency Act in the Senate, added that administration officials \u201chave chosen to illegally ignore the law that I led the Senate fight to pass. By not complying, the administration is openly denying \u2018equal justice under the law\u2019 to all victims of Jeffrey Epstein.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

None of this will surprise critics who have seen Trump decimate Congress over the past year with authoritarian zeal. He has signed 221 executive orders\u2014more than in his entire first term\u2014and has bypassed the legislature on everything from banning TikTok to eliminating USAID and adding his name to the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Shortly after the partial release of the Epstein files, it was announced that the U.S. military had launched airstrikes against dozens of Islamic State targets in Syria in retaliation for an attack on American personnel. There were references to another day in December 1998 when Clinton ordered airstrikes on Iraq and was accused by members of Congress of trying to distract from the impeachment process against him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trump will have a hard time distracting himself from the Epstein issue, however, as only 44% of Republicans say they approve of the way he has handled it so far. There had been some expectation that Friday would bring the issue to a standstill, for better or for worse, with the politically favorable timing of Christmas approaching.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Instead, the \u201cmore transparent\u201d administration has once again decided to delay and ignore. This will only fuel the conspiracy theories that once fueled Trump but now threaten to destroy him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There are also dozens of censored images of people who are naked or semi-naked and photos of the stockbroker and other people with their faces covered, holding firearms. The businessman’s closeness to celebrities was already known, however, especially with Democratic former president Bill Clinton, who is seen in several photos.<\/p>\n\n\n

Epstein introduced Trump to 14-year-old girl<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Among the thousands of documents released is one in which Epstein allegedly introduced Trump to a 14-year-old girl at Mar-a-Lago.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During the alleged encounter in the 1990s, Epstein elbowed Trump and \u201cplayfully asked,\u201d referring to the girl, \u201cIs that good, right?\u201d the document states.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trump smiled and nodded, according to the 2020 lawsuit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The document states that \u201cthey both laughed\u201d and she felt uncomfortable, but \u201cat the time she was too young to understand why.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The victim claims she was abused by Epstein for years. The lawsuit does not make any allegations against Trump, and Epstein’s victims have not made any allegations against him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The US president has previously said he has been friends with Epstein for years, but said they had a falling out around 2004, years before Epstein was first arrested. Trump has repeatedly denied any wrongdoing in connection with Epstein.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
