Chinese state media and defense analysts claim that the prototype radars have already demonstrated success in simulated tests against stealth targets, positioning this technology as a game changer in the war against stealth aircraft and an escalation of the arms race in quantum military technology.

In summary (more in our above post) quantum radar leverages quantum entanglement and photon-based detection to penetrate the radar-absorbing stealth coatings that have long protected fifth-generation fighters from conventional radar. Unlike traditional radar that relies on radio waves that are easily deflected by the stealth coating, quantum radar uses entangled photons to detect subtle disturbances in quantum states, potentially making aircraft like the F-22 and F-35 vulnerable at ranges of over 100 kilometers.

Geopolitically, the mass production of quantum radars signals China’s intention to neutralize U.S. air superiority in potential conflicts in the Taiwan Strait or in confrontations in the South China Sea, where stealth F-22 aircraft provide a critical advantage. By deploying these detectors on ground stations, ships, and possibly high-altitude drones, Beijing could create a “quantum radar shield” that forces stealth aircraft to operate further away from targets, reducing their effectiveness.

The U.S. and its allies are responding with their own quantum radar initiatives, but China’s lead in scaling up production, thanks to its dominance of the rare earth materials supply chain and photonics science, is giving it a temporary advantage. This technology can not only track stealth aircraft, but could be developed to jam stealth avionics, reshaping the dynamics of air combat.

Potential exports to China’s allies, such as Iran, could further alter the balance of power in regions such as the Middle East. Ultimately, China’s quantum leap challenges the invincibility of stealth technology, prompting a reassessment of global air power strategies, underscoring the merging of quantum physics with military power in the 21st century.

In our previous analysis entitled “Will quantum radars be the “antidote” to the F-35?” we had extensively reported on the experimental quantum radar that…

[1808
161,5953,6999,3841,7507
post-26631","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-defense-space","tag-china","tag-f-35-lightning-ii","tag-quantum-radar","tag-radar","tag-stealth-technology
["GET
