I greet you not as a career diplomat, nor as a man bred for banquet halls and handshakes. I do not come to you to speak the rehearsed language of refined politics. I come to you as a soldier of my people, as the protector of a wounded country, as the son of a continent that has carried the cross of the world but has never worn its crown.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
My name is Captain Ibrahim Traor\u00e9, President of Burkina Faso. And I speak today not only on behalf of the 22 million people in my country, but on behalf of a continent whose history has been distorted, whose pain has been ignored, and whose dignity has been repeatedly auctioned off on the altar of foreign interests.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Africa is not a battlefield. Africa is not your experiment, your puppet, your warehouse of raw materials. Africa does not rise to kneel, but to stand. And today, before this great gathering of nations, I say: Africa will not kneel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
On the false generosity of global politics<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n For decades, you have sent aid with one hand and struck at our lives with the other. You build wells in our villages, while your companies drain our rivers. They donate vaccines and patent the cures. They talk about climate protection, but they continue to fund the very forces that are burning our forests and drying up our lakes. What kind of generosity is this? The kind that feeds the mouth but silences the voice. The kind that keeps a person alive long enough to become addicted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n We do not turn a blind eye to this hypocrisy. Let me be clear. We are not ungrateful for sincere humanitarian aid, but we reject a world order that disguises exploitation as partnership.<\/p>\n\n\n\n We reject financial institutions that lend money with one hand and steal sovereignty with the other. Africa no longer wants charity. We want justice. We want control of our destiny.<\/p>\n\n\n\n In the chains of colonialism and its modern descendants<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Our wounds are not self-inflicted. They are the legacy of an empire-building delusion that saw us not as human beings but as cheap labor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n My ancestors were not consulted when maps were drawn with rulers and compasses in Berlin. The borders of Burkina Faso, like those of many African nations, were not drawn by our ancestors, but by people who had never set foot on our soil, who knew nothing of our languages, our tribes, or our spirit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Today, colonialism has a new face. It wears suits. It organizes forums. It signs treaties in Geneva, Paris, and Washington. But it still takes without consent. It still dictates instead of being chosen. It is still silent instead of listening. If you want to talk about peace, then let’s start by putting aside the arrogance that peace is something only you can teach us.<\/p>\n\n\n\n On resource exploitation and the myth of development<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n They call us a developing country, as if centuries of theft had not set us back. As if the gold from our lands, the diamonds from our rivers, the oil beneath our feet had not built the skyscrapers in which this Assembly stands. Africa is rich, rich in minerals and culture and wisdom and youth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n But you taught us to measure wealth in GDP and the value of exports. They call it development when a foreign company owns 90% of a gold mine on our land. They call it progress when your security guards guard cobalt mines but not our children’s schools. This is not progress. This is piracy with legal documents. From now on, we will define development on our own terms. Development that teaches children in classrooms and not minerals on cargo ships. Development that respects the country and its people, respects the country, the people and the soul of a nation and is based on sovereignty and intervention.<\/p>\n\n\n\n National sovereignty<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Why are we called unstable when an African nation makes independent decisions? Why are we labeled a threat when we seek military cooperation outside the colonial sphere? Burkina Faso has chosen a path of sovereignty that is not a threat to peace. It is an explanation of coming of age. We are no longer under your tutelage. We are no longer your junior partners in diplomacy. We are a free people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n When a nation chooses to have partners who respect it rather than exploit it, that is not rebellion. That is wisdom. No foreign power will dictate its alliances to Burkina Faso. We will build relationships based on mutual respect, not on historical guilt or current intimidation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Fighting terrorism<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n They ask why there is violence in the Sahel. They ask why our youth are taking up arms. But you don\u2019t ask who benefits when our mines are guarded by private mercenaries while our villages remain unprotected. They don\u2019t ask how weapons get into deserts where no steel is produced. They don\u2019t ask why peacekeeping never seems to end war.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The truth is that many of the so-called solutions to Africa\u2019s security problems are simply business models. Endless conflict has become a market, and African suffering has become a subscription service. Burkina Faso has decided to break this cycle. We will fight terrorism, but not with dependencies. We will secure our nation not with foreign dictates, but with national dignity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Migration and human dignity<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n We do not want our youth to drown in the Mediterranean. We do not want our brightest minds to leave for countries that once called us savages. We do not want remittances. We want reasons for our people to stay.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Why are our young people leaving? Not because we lack beauty, but because we are built to be deprived of opportunities. Not because we hate our country, but because our country is treated as someone else\u2019s property.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Migration is not a crisis. It is a symptom of wars we did not start. Of loans we did not need. Of a world order that tells our young people that their only value lies outside their own homes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The solution does not lie in border fences. \u201d solution lies in the justice of Africa\u2019s place in the world. Africa is not a mistake to be corrected. Africa is not a failed continent. Africa is the womb of the world, the cradle of civilization, the guardian of the hope of tomorrow. We have become invisible in global decisions that deeply affect us. Africa does not have a permanent seat on the UN Security Council, with 54 sovereign nations. What kind of justice is this? You can call it Balance. We call it betrayal. They talk about democracy, but they maintain a world structure in which the powerful few veto the dreams of the many. We will no longer whisper in rooms where we deserve to speak with full voice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Help for Faith and Spiritual Dignity<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n We are a spiritual people. Before your cathedrals, our ancestors sang to the sky. Before the missionaries came You, we knew the language of the rivers and the laws of the sacred forest. Christianity came, Islam came, and we received them not as slaves, but as seekers. But now we ask.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Will the church and the mosque really stand by us if all people are driven out by greed disguised as globalization? Will its pulpit echo our cries or will it simply repeat the songs of the powerful? Faith must also be decolonized. It must go with the poor, not the privileged.<\/p>\n\n\n\n On unity among African nations<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n This is not a discussion of one country. This is about controlling a continent. They see how Mali, Niger, and Burkina Faso are forging a new bond. They fear our unity. Why? Because it threatens the myth that Africa can emerge only under your watch. We do not unite to wage war, but to achieve dignity, to gather our courage, to share our strength and to protect each other when the world turns away.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Pan-Africanism is not a dream. It is our lifeline. And we will build it brick by brick, heart by heart, with or without your approval.<\/p>\n\n\n\n To the youth of Africa<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Of the little boy who sells oranges on the side of the road. Of the girl who runs 10 kilometers to school. Of the child whose only toy is a stone, but who dreams of the stars. You are the reason we fight. Do not believe the lie that your continent is cursed. You are the blessing. Do not envy foreign passports. Be proud of the name your country, your roots. The world may not applaud you now, but the future will honor your name.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Final Words<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n We will not kneel. I did not come to declare war. I came to declare the will. So we will not kneel before fear. We will not kneel before foreign banks. We will not kneel before outdated empires disguised as friends. Africa does not ask for a place at your table. We are building our own, a table where no child eats last. Where no nation is silenced because it does not have nuclear weapons. Where justice is not filtered through the prism of nationality or history, but shared as breath is divided. This is our vision and this is our oath. The world must hear it today and always.
