The Chief of the US Army, General Randy George, announced that he has asked the service and the country’s defense industry to accelerate the M-1 Abrams main battle tank upgrade program, and in particular the development and entry into service of the E3 version. According to the original schedule (May 2023), the E3 version should be ready within 65 months, but now the goal is to have the new version ready within 24-30 months. In May 2023, the US Army approved the development of the M-1E3 Abrams version, as an alternative to the SEPv4 (System Enhancement Package Version.4) development program. Last February, the US Army announced that it had unified the two programs into the M-1E3 version. The SEPv4 version, development of which began in March 2022, would be an evolution of SEPv3, which is the current version of the M-1 Abrams.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
