For example, it is absolutely impossible to substantially reduce the US national debt of 36.2 trillion dollars through import tariffs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n According to the most rough estimates, the new tariffs could not bring in more than 3.1 trillion dollars or 6.5 trillion dollars in the best-case scenario over the next ten years, which is less than 1% per year of the current US national debt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n To make the math add up, at least on paper, many tariffs would have to be increased to 100%, which would mean that no one in the country would be able to buy anything because prices would simply double.<\/p>\n\n\n\n In turn, \u201creindustrialization\u201d would have to magically create a bunch of jobs and, consequently, a new tax base that enriches the state.
