Zelensky, on the other hand, clearly says that Europe alone cannot protect Ukraine in the event that America gets out of the way.

Under these circumstances, it would be good for Europeans to finally realize the reality that is a beacon light to everyone else, that the European Union has become so insignificant on the global chessboard that the superpowers “do not play with us, do not ask our opinion, and do not even inform us about the issue of the war in Ukraine, which undoubtedly concerns us.” Trump’s behavior is, of course, outrageously crude by the standards of international diplomacy, but that’s how it is.

The truth is also that even if the American president, out of politeness, wanted the European Union to participate in the discussions, he wouldn’t know who to consult with. Who would he call? Von der Leyen? Does Von der Leyen commit France, England, Germany, Spain, Greece or any of the other “27” to decisions of this level?

So even if Trump wanted to communicate with Europe, he would have no one to talk to because the European Union does not exist. There is only a monetary union. That is as far as the European project has gone. If Europe had been united, if there was a political union, if there was a European army, if there were Eurobonds, things would have been different. But these things did not happen and now the geopolitical upheaval is knocking on our door.

Unfortunately, the leadership of the EU are bureaucrats, not politicians. They are not leaders, they are employees who govern the peoples of the 27 European countries of the Union with regulations and laws cut and sewn to their own measure.

By operating purely bureaucratically, they have led Europe to the international fringe. And now, embarrassed by Trump’s brutality, they wonder what harm he has done to them, limiting themselves for the time being to statements that can only be described as “grumpy.” With statements like those of Ursula von der Leyen that “Trump’s tariffs will not go unanswered” or that “there can be no solution in Ukraine without the participation of the European Union.” In vain, the President of the Commission has been trying to arrange a meeting with Trump since the day of his election, and European bureaucrats have been looking for an American to talk to them. No one answers them. And that is why the most militarily powerful countries, England (which left the EU), France, Spain, along with Germany, issued separate statements from the Commission about their participation in the peace talks.

Trump says to our face that we have no business and that he is assigning us to implement the supervision of the peace agreement that he will conclude with Putin.

In the end, the Americans are leaving the dismembered Ukraine in the hands of the non-existent European Union, while telling it at the same time that it will have to spend some trillions of euros (about 3 in the next 10 years, Bloomberg analysts estimate) to arm itself if it wants to be safe against Russia, a nuclear superpower whose annual defense spending is greater than the defense spending of the 27 European countries combined. And which nuclear superpower is extremely angry with the EU for its stance towards Russia, but also towards Russian assets during this crisis.

You will say that Trump can say whatever he wants but these things are not happening, in the end the Americans will not leave Europe unprotected. We don’t know what’s possible and what’s not possible, we don’t know if the US will ultimately do something other than what its president says, we don’t know what terms Trump will accept on behalf of the Europeans and what concessions he will make to Putin, but that’s what the US president is saying right now.

Can these things happen? Depending on the reaction of the rest. So far, however, Europe has no one to answer Trump.

Trump’s discussions with Putin and Zelensky about ending the war between Russia and Ukraine have left Europeans speechless, who are complaining that talks cannot…

[818,390,819
655,470,215,70
post-22990","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-europe","category-politics","category-usa","tag-donald-trump","tag-europe","tag-us","tag-usa
["GET
