One could say that the French prime minister has managed to square the circle.

He will also put the 2025 budget into effect and will ensure that he and his government can implement it, as, as everything shows, the National Assembly will vote against the motion of censure filed by left-wing parties tomorrow afternoon.

Having managed to split the New Popular Front, Bayrou seems to be on the safe side. All Socialist Party deputies declare their determination to vote against the motion of censure filed against the government by their partners (?) in the Front, namely Jean-Luc Mélenchon’s France Insubordinate, the Greens and the Communist Party.

France’s fiscal status is, as is well known, in a miserable state. Bayrou’s budget has as its central objective the reduction of the fiscal deficit to 5.4% by the end of the year from 6.1% which was probably closed in 2024. Of course, this is an austerity budget that differs little from the one that “broke” Michel Barnier’s government and which foresees savings of 50 billion euros, specifically 30 billion euros from spending cuts and also 20 billion euros from increased tax revenues.

“The Betrayal of the Socialists”

The Paris government is under pressure from Brussels, the markets and, one might say, reality itself, to quickly resolve the outstanding issues and approve a credible budget, an economic law that will lay the foundations for fiscal consolidation. The deficit is skyrocketing, and public debt has also soared to 3.3 trillion euros, reaching 114% of the country’s GDP.

In fact, tomorrow’s vote on whether or not to vote for the motion of censure is equivalent to an indirect vote for or against the budget. And the Socialist Party, which voted against the previous government of Michel Barnier by supporting the motion of censure of the Left, is not going to do the same this time.

The votes of the Socialists, accused by their comrades in the New Popular Front of treason, are enough for Bayrou and his government to survive.

It is understood that the entire Center-Right will support the Prime Minister. That is, both the presidential camp (Macron’s Together for Democracy, Bayrou’s Democrats or MoDem and the Horizons of former Prime Minister Edouard Philippe), and the Republicans, the successors of the right-wing party Alarm for Democracy or RPR that brought Chirac and Sarkozy to power, will vote against the motion of censure.

They were made regulators

The point is that the current situation gives the Far Right of Marine Le Pen and former Republican Eric Chiotti an excellent opportunity to appear as agents of political stability in France by supporting the government “for the good of the country” at this critical juncture. The 124 deputies of the National Rally (RN) and Chiotti’s 16 are not necessary for Bayrou to complete the 287 deputies he needs to survive. But they will most likely make an inexpensive demonstration of political seriousness to the electorate.

Le Pen’s party will announce its decision on Wednesday morning whether or not to vote in favor of the motion of censure. However, everything indicates that neither it nor Chiotti’s party will align with the “Far Left of Mélenchon,” the Communists, and the extreme activists of the Ecologist.

Le Pen, as is well known, took care to put a good-looking, eloquent and hopeful young man in the intolerant fascist party she inherited from her father (the National Front, which she recently renamed the National Rally), so that she herself could claim the presidency of the French Republic in 2027, as far away from it as possible. The president of the National Rally, Jordan Bardella, because that’s what it’s about, speaking on Tuesday on French radio revealed that his party will not vote for censure against François Bayrou on the occasion of the budget.

In other words, the National Rally will not do what it did in the previous case, when it voted against and brought down (along with the votes of the then united Left) the Barnier government.

Consider Emmanuel Macron, who, with the passion that distinguishes him and the feeling of omnipotence that the greatness of his office gives him, dissolved the National Assembly last June and plunged his country into the greatest crisis of institutions and trust it has experienced since the war, with the possible exception of May 1968.

“The moment of truth for the country has arrived, because no country can survive without a budget,” said François Bayrou, announcing on Monday that…

[818,390
472,25,3345,5494
post-22660","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-europe","category-politics","tag-emmanuel-macron","tag-eu","tag-far-right-2","tag-framce
["GET
