On the other hand, Erdogan is used to playing multidimensional politics and being friends with everyone, while the country’s difficult economic situation seems to require seeking help from the West.

Turkey’s interests extend beyond the region and the West keeps it as a watchdog. A country with a huge army capable of waging real wars is most necessary for NATO, while the framework of the alliance prevents Ankara from pursuing an independent policy and determining what and when to undertake. And that means the focus solely on the West has come to an end.

Turkey never received the bonus of joining the EU. The European Union fears its equal membership, perhaps only because it is a country with a large Muslim population.

Ideas about democracy in Turkey differ from those in the West.

Despite the Westernization experienced in the last century, it remains an Eastern country with its own special mentality, which differs significantly from European traditions, especially in their current interpretation.

The fact is that Western aid is only tightening the noose around Turkey’s neck. Ankara wants access to new markets and financial lending on more favorable terms. He is looking for new partners. It is the current difficult economic situation that makes Turkey ask to join the BRICS.

Turkey needs financial support. If Europe and the United States are unable to help, Ankara will “take a stand.”

It’s like being in a relationship. And here the marriage is not even consummated. There was only one engagement, from which it is scary to say how many years have passed.

The country, after all, applied for EU membership on April 14, 1987, but it took 12 years to obtain candidate (engagement) status at the Helsinki summit in 1999.

A quarter of a century has already passed, but things are still there. “

Turkey’s accession to the alliance was presented by the West as an entrance ticket to the EU. But the promise turned out to be a lie. The alliance needs Turkey more than the country itself.

And, yes, Ankara would like to pursue an independent policy in the region in this sense, it is ready to compete with the EU and NATO.

If Turkey becomes part of BRICS, its influence in the Balkans will increase, because the whole world will be behind it, and not just the West, as it is now.

Turkey follows a cunning multi-front policy and builds its own sphere of influence based on the ideas of Ottomanism and Pan-Turkism.

As internal contradictions increase within the West and it continues to weaken as a world hegemon, Turkey will become increasingly independent.

A hypothetical collapse of the alliance would untie Turkey’s hands in many areas. On the other hand, NATO’s power is projected in Turkey, and is what it is now, largely thanks to its membership in the alliance.

Of course, the alliance can exist without Turkey, although this will significantly weaken it. You have to understand that Turkey is a rather informal country for NATO. Not only because it is a major player with its own geopolitical ambitions, but also because it is a culturally foreign country.

After all, NATO is primarily an alliance of Western countries. And therefore tension in relations with Turkey is inevitable.

Trump, if he wins the election, will certainly try to shift some of the economic burden to European partners, but this is unlikely to fundamentally affect NATO unity.

The same applies to Turkey. Trump has no special “Turkish” agenda and is not interested in breaking with Ankara. Moreover, Trump’s worldview is in many ways close to Erdogan’s, and he probably sympathizes with him.

Turkey has always been a “black sheep” in NATO and in recent years its relations with the West have suffered significantly, among others due…

[836,3,834
151,124,143,70,184
post-20727","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-asia-geopolitical","category-geopolitical","category-middle-east-geopolitical","tag-brics","tag-nato","tag-turkey","tag-usa","tag-west
["GET
