July 4th.

According to a YouGov survey conducted for The Times, Reform UK now has 19% of voter support, up by two percentage points, while the Conservatives remain stagnant at 18%.

The opposition Labor Party continues to lead with 37%. The poll, which polled 2,211 respondents, was conducted from June 12 to June 13, shortly after Sunak announced a 17 billion pound ($21.70 billion) tax cut in the Conservative Party’s election manifesto.

The political wind is changing in Europe, which is making a major shift. The rise of Reform UK coincides with Farage’s return to the political spotlight after announcing his intention to lead the party and stand for election to parliament.

Farage, a key figure in the Brexit movement, aims to reshape the political debate around social policy issues, including major obstacles to immigration and refugee status.

“This is the turning point. The only vote lost now is the vote for the Conservatives, we are the genuine challengers to Labor and we are on our way to power,” Farage said in a campaign video.

Originally founded as the Brexit Party in 2018, Reform UK has embraced a platform that appeals to right-wing voters who feel alienated from the traditional Conservative agenda.

The change comes as Sunak faces criticism for pulling out of D-Day commemorations in France early, an action that has cast a shadow over his campaign. Despite the latest polls showing Reform UK ahead of the Conservatives in terms of voter preference, getting the party’s support evenly spread across the country is a major challenge

The majoritarian system favors geographically concentrated support, making it unlikely that Reform UK will secure many of the 650 parliamentary seats, despite being able to receive millions of votes nationally.

A Conservative MP, who asked not to be named, commented on the shift – telling Reuters: “Yes. I think people are fed up with the Torris, but not with Conservatism. So they move to another conservative party.”

While other polls have shown the Conservatives with a more substantial lead over Reform, the momentum appears to be with Farage as he re-enters the political arena with a clear message and strategy aimed at disrupting the current political order.

As a rule, the largest party and parties with strong regional support are favored at the expense of other parties or those that do not have a solid electoral base in certain geographical regions.

This is precisely the case with Reform UK, and therein lies the warning from senior Tories to voters that Labor could win a “super-majority” if Farage’s far-right party takes votes from the Conservatives and splits the right vote. As the election approaches, it remains to be seen how this change will affect the Conservative Party’s strategy and whether Farage’s renewed influence will translate into electoral success.

Riskology by Sunak

Rishi Sunak tried from Puglia, where he is attending the G7 Summit, to downplay the gravity of the YouGov poll.
“The only poll that counts is the one on the Fourth of July,” Sunak said, saying he was fighting for every vote and warning that a vote for Reform UK would give Labor “a blank check to tax everyone – their house, their pension , their car, their family”.

Reckless fiscal spending and taxing everything that moves is Torres’ permanent line of attack against Labour, who for their part have pledged through Keir Starmer that they will move to stimulate growth and restore economic stability.

“The fact that Farage’s party is neck-and-neck with the ruling Conservatives represents a seismic shift in the voting landscape,” YouGov reports, but notes in any case that the figures are within the margin of statistical error and no conclusions can be drawn. if Reform UK can maintain this momentum against the Conservatives.

The particular measurement that gives Reform UK a narrow lead over the Conservatives is the only one among a total of six polls conducted in 24 hours, and none of the others show Farage’s party leading the Conservatives or even gaining ground. All six polls were taken after Sunak’s election manifesto was launched – and show Reform UK from one point ahead to 12 behind the Conservatives.

On average, Reform UK is four or five points behind the Conservatives (around 15%). But the news remains bad for Sunak

His only hope of even narrowing the abysmal gap with Labor lies in recapturing the Reform UK vote, which comes entirely from those who supported the Conservatives in the 2019 election.

In that ballot, today’s Reform UK did not field candidates in constituencies held by the Conservatives.
