The surprise resignation of Chancellor Angela Merkel’s chosen one, Annegret\nKramp-Karrenbauer (AKK) from the leadership of the Christian Democrats (CDU)\nand the German Chancellor’s 2021 nomination, early last week creates new data\nand a prolonged period of internal party crisis for the Christian Democrats, a\nyear before the Elections in Germany (2021) to claim the Chancellery.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The reasons for the resignation of the AKK<\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The reasons for Annegret Kramp-Karrenbauer resignation are not one but they\nare an accumulated set of misses and false statements since taking over the\nLeadership of the CDU.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The reason for overflowing the glass of all these failures was the fact\nthat in the recent elections held in Thuringia, a state of East Germany, the\ncandidate of the Free Democrats was named Prime Minister based on the votes of\nthe far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) \nand the CDU.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Next, CDU and its candidate then attributed the AKK to a\ndelayed and sluggish response and intervention in favour of the party’s\ncandidate, resulting in the vote for the CDU candidate being lost.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This inanimate political behaviour by the AKK has been added to a series of\nwronged and misguided initiatives such as its assessments of the results of the\nEuropean elections and the offensive comparisons of homosexuals and pedophiles,\nproving that the AKK was simply a transitional leader for the CDU  and not the leader who would attach a new\npolitical and ideological stigma by leading the CDU to electoral victories in\nboth Germany and the EU.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Candidates for the CDU<\/strong> leadership<\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The main contenders to date for the CDU leadership are  Friedrich \nMerz,  who intends, by taking over\nthe party leadership, to remove the CDU from the center of the ideological spectrum\nin order to repatriate the votes taken by the AfD  from the right wing of the CDU.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Moreover, its aim is to make the CDU, through its political and ideological\nstigma a multi-level party, which will house votes on every side and political expression of\nsociety, i.e. ultraconservatives, supporters of the social state, religious\npeople, etc. even supporters of Chancellor Angela Merkel’s migration policy to\ndate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Another challenger to the CDU leadership is the very successful current\nPresident of the German Parliament and the highly successful Minister of\nFinance in the History of Germany, Wolfgang Sch\u00e4uble, a fond and robust pillar\nof fiscal discipline in both Germany and the Eurozone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Wolfgang Sch\u00e4uble and Chancellor Merkel were the two pillars of economic\nprosperity that Germany has experienced over the past decade. The choice of\nWolfgang Sch\u00e4uble to the Leadership of the CDU \nand the Chancellery respectively would lead not only Germany but also\nthe Eurozone to a new type of fiscal discipline to finally implement a common\neurozone budget that would have the potential to pursue a common fiscal and tax\npolicy in the Eurozone. As a European \u201cRoosevelt\u201d, he could lead a New Deal for\nthe Eurozone.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Angela Merkel and Wolfgang Sch\u00e4uble’s forced policy of approving financial\nsupport packages for the weaker southern Eurozone economies (Greece, Cyprus)\ncoupled with Angela Merkel’s recent policy on the refugee issue for Germany has\nled to the AfD’s emergence on the German political scene.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Other contenders for the CDU’s leadership are the successful in managing\nthe nCor-V epidemic, Health Minister Jens Georg Spahn and the Prime Minister of\nthe country’s largest state North Rhine-Westphalia, Armin Laschet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The questions to be answered<\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The new CDU leader, who will emerge from the party congress in December\n2020, should have convincing answers as to what the CDU’s new political and\nideological stigma will be in the upcoming elections in 2021 to claim the\nChancellery.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

More specifically, this new political and ideological background should\nprovide answers to what the new CDU policy will be after chancellor Angela\nMerkel’s era. Will it be ultraconservative, multi-pronged or will there be\ncontinuity on the political path of centrist-moderate politics that incumbent\nChancellor Angela Merkel has carved for years? <\/p>\n\n\n\n

What will happen about the AfD and what proposed policies will propose the\nCDU in order to go back all these disgruntled voters to the CDU who ended up in\nthe AfD’s arms?  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

What policies will be cancelled the AfD policies? Will the CDU dare to\nadopt the AfD’s positions or propose opposing policies toward AfD\u2019s policies\nthat would nullify AfD positions?  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

How will the CDU deal with a sudden cartel after the elections between the\nLeft and the AfD to claim and “seize” the Chancellery, forming\nbetween them a Coalition government? Coalition government between the Left and\nthe Far Right that the Eurozone and the EU have shown in other member-countries\nin recent years. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

What will be the political-ideological agenda that will persuade CDU Social\nDemocrats partners (CSU) to remain partners in the hitherto grand governing\ncoalition between CDU-CSU? <\/p>\n\n\n\n

What is Germany’s position on the common euro area budget and the greater\nsurrender of powers to Brussels that will lead to a common fiscal, tax and\neconomic policy in the Eurozone?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Persuasive answers to such questions will highlight not only the new CDU\nleader but also the new Germany in the EU and the world.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
