The missiles in question, of British origin, caused catastrophic damage to the Russian submarine Rostov on Don.

Newly emerged images provided stark visual evidence of the significant damage caused to Russia’s imroved Kilo-class submarine, Rostov on Don (B-237), following a Ukrainian missile attack at the Sevastopol Shipyard.

The strike is believed to have been carried out using SCALP and Storm Shadow cruise missiles, from Britain and France. This is one of the most significant Ukrainian strikes against the Russian Black Sea Fleet in Crimea.

A British Ministry of Defense intelligence briefing confirmed that the Sevmorzavod shipyard, part of Russia’s Black Sea Fleet (BSF) naval base in Sevastopol, was the main target on September 13, 2023 of Kyiv.

Both the Russian amphibious assault ship Minsk and the submarine Rostov-na-Donu were targeted, as both were undergoing maintenance in special tanks.

Contrary to efforts by the Russian Foreign Ministry to play down the picture of the damage, evidence suggests that the amphibious warship Minsk may never re-enter the water, while repairs to the Russian submarine could result in exorbitant costs and prolonged downtime of operation for the shipyard’s docks, British sources stress without being able to confirm.

Lt. Gen. Mykola Olenshunk, Commander of the Ukrainian Air Force, in a statement about the types of missiles used in the attack on the Russian shipyards in question said: “The British and French media are curious about the type of cruise missiles used by the Ukrainian pilots to send the ships Minsk and Rostov-on-Don in the same way as the cruiser Moskva.”

He confirmed the use of both British Storm Shadow cruise missiles and French SCALP cruise missiles by Ukrainian forces, adding: “Both missiles are working perfectly and the conqueror has no chance!”

This bold Ukrainian attack underscores the continued support of Western nations for Ukraine, exemplified by the UK’s delivery of Storm Shadow missiles to Kiev earlier this year.
With an impressive operational range, these missiles have significantly increased the Ukrainian military’s strike capability in the region.

The Russian answer for now in Kiev

Over 12 warships will join the Russian navy this year, for a total of 14 in 2023. These include the guided-missile frigate Admiral Golovko and two nuclear-powered submarines, the Krasnayarsk and Tsar Alexander III, which carry 16 Bulava nuclear ballistic missiles.

The Russian response is expected to continue with Russia seeking to respond with multiple strikes against infrastructure in Ukraine targeting foreign advisors and Headquarters.

The image of the Russian submarine Rostov on Don after being hit by Ukrainian Storm Shadow missiles is really bitter.
