In the past three weeks alone, 21 sorties have occurred in NATO air patrol operations in the European Baltic region. Great Britain said this on the evening of Saturday, June 24.

The Royal British Air Force’s Eurofighter Typhoon fighters, operating from Estonia, are part of the so-called “rapid reaction” aircraft used by the North Atlantic Treaty Organization to ensure the protection of its eastern European flank.

Their answer comes at a time of escalating tensions with Moscow, mainly due to the military conflict in Ukraine, which in recent hours has been overshadowed by the armed rebellion of Prigozhin, head of the Wagner mercenary, against Putin. Of course, after developments of the last 24 hours, the Russian “revolutionary” seems to have withdrawn his coup attempts and is now moving towards Belarus, after agreeing to President Lukashenko’s proposal.

However, British Typhoons, which have been operating from an Estonian air base since March, have been taking off to control the movement of Russian aircraft when they do not respond to NATO air traffic requests. This was specifically stated by the British Ministry of Defense in its official statement on the issue.

Thus, British jets patrol the skies over the Baltic, with the Portuguese and Romanian air forces at their side. Portuguese and Romanian fighters operate from neighboring Lithuania.

The Russian aircraft intercepted include several types of aircraft, including Su-27 fighter jets, long-range bombers, as well as transport aircraft and data collection aircraft.

NATO’s quick reaction missions help ensure Europe’s aircrews are “constantly ready to take off”, according to the London-based Ministry of Defence.

The country’s defense minister, Ben Wallace, said the interceptions of the Russian jets were “an important reminder of the value of the centralized defense and deterrence provided by NATO”.

While in Estonia, London’s air force also took part in major air exercises with its NATO allies, including exercise Air Defender, which is the largest air exercise since the end of the Cold War. It includes 250 aircraft and 10,000 personnel from 25 different nations.

The United Kingdom says its fighter jets in the Baltic have been rushed to take off 21 times recently because of the presence of…

[825,3
4436,1276,3783,4437,58,216
post-14367","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-europe-geopolitical","category-geopolitical","tag-air-war","tag-baltic-countries","tag-britain","tag-eurofighter","tag-russia","tag-uk
["GET
