The system is fully network-centric and based on an open architecture with a modular design to integrate a variety of sensors, battle management and missiles into a single “package”. Care has also been given to the security of operation in an environment of interference and cyber warfare, so that its action continues even with the most modern related threats.

The interlinking of multiple BARAK MX guns into a unified field of action enables coverage areas to be expanded, with each launcher able to leverage data from other guns and sensors beyond the range of its own respective systems. Other air defense units can also cooperate, from platforms on land and at sea to create a common multi-layered defense network. This is how other platforms are strengthened to achieve area denial and counter missile attacks.

The missiles now used by the BARAK MX are not (as is common in other proposals) air-to-air adapted for ground launch, but designed from the start as surface-to-air. So they don’t have the corresponding size and weight limitations that have come from their original use on aircraft, limitations that extend to warhead size, interception envelope and final approach. In the logic of BARAK MX, various missiles are proposed, with ranges from 35 to 150 km (BARAK-MRAD up to 35 km, BARAK-LRAD up to 70 and BARAK-ER up to 150 km), with a design that allows high speeds and flexibility to maximize of the no escape zone and the possibility of injury. The interception height, depending on the missile, reaches up to 30 kilometers.

All projectiles can be fired from the same octuple launcher, so the most suitable one can be selected from the launcher in the most favorable firing position to achieve the necessary “economy” of combat. Of the missiles, the long-range BARAK-ER is the only one with a rocket motor booster.

The launchers are designed for autonomous operation, so as to offer significantly increased protection compared to older systems, both against aircraft, helicopters, UAVs, cruise missiles, etc. as well as against regular ballistic missiles. Their sophisticated communication also allows them to engage targets without depending on their own radar, as they receive data from remote sensors. Corresponding possibilities are foreseen for use by warships.

The missiles have sophisticated active radio frequency sensors for target detection in all weather conditions and visibility levels, with the relevant technology also being a key expertise of IAI, which is also its national supplier in Israel.

Also, the networking of the missiles allows the start of the interception of the target before the respective artillery even “sees” it (Launch on Remote function). This improves the overall performance of the air defense system with each missile being directed to a specific target throughout its course.

Thus, the use of BARAK MX compared to older air defense systems offers greater flexibility in deployment, greater coverage area and economy of use. While being an open architecture system with high compatibility, it easily integrates into existing air defense networks, sensors and datalinks, including known NATO protocols. In addition to the BARAK MX, IAI also produces other air defense solutions, from the Arrow system for very high altitude anti-ballistic protection, to the short-range Sky Capture, while it itself develops and produces all their key subsystems, from radars, missiles, launchers , to management software, data links and fire address.

Israeli know-how has several solutions to offer such as IAI’s BARAK MX system, which has been developed to meet stringent local requirements and is…

[1808
4276,1885,4277,2937,153
post-13480","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-defense-space","tag-air-defence","tag-air-defence-identification-zone","tag-barak-mx","tag-defence","tag-israel
["GET
