Russian company NTC Vulka is a front for Russian intelligence and military services, thousands of internal documents reveal. More than 90 former employees of the Russian company NTC Vulkan, which allegedly develops cyberwarfare tools on behalf of the Kremlin, are now working for European companies, Der Spiegel has revealed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The German magazine is one of the publications that reviewed the “Vulcan Files,” thousands of internal NTC Vulkan documents handed over by an anonymous whistleblower shortly after the Russian invasion of Ukraine began.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
NTC Vulkan is actually a “front office” for Russia’s FSV security agency, RSV intelligence agency and GRU electronic warfare agency, the whistleblower claimed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
NTC Vulkan’s internal documents were first handed over to Germany’s S\u00fcddeutsche Zeitung and then passed on to 10 other media outlets, including Der Spiegel, ZDF, the Guardian, Le Monde and the Washington Post.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to Der Spiegel, a former developer at the Russian company has worked for Siemens, which said on Friday it was investigating the complaint but could not reveal the identity of the developer in question due to privacy laws.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Another former NTC Vulkan employee now works as a “senior software development engineer” at Amazon Web Services in Dublin, according to the German magazine. It remains unclear, however, whether the dozens of former NTC Vulkan employees are working for Russia’s benefit from their current positions at European companies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Cyber warfare tools<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n One of the Vulkan Files documents links the Russian hacking firm’s development to the infamous Sandworm hacking group, which US authorities say caused two blackouts in Ukraine, attacked the South Korean Olympics and unleashed the NotPetya virus, the which caused unprecedented economic damage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Another system, known as Amezit, is used for espionage and Internet control in Russian-controlled areas. It also allows the spread of fake news through fake accounts on social networks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n A third NTV Vulkan system is used to train hackers to attack rail, air and port infrastructure. According to the Guardian, five Western cyber security firms have deemed NTC Vulkan’s internal documents to be authentic. The company did not respond to a request for comment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Vulkan, which has been involved in classified military programs since 2011, has over 120 employees, 60 of whom are developers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The company, whose work culture is reminiscent of Silicon Valley, is said to promote its slogan “Make the world a better place” in videos.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" Russian company NTC Vulka is a front for Russian intelligence and military services, thousands of internal documents reveal.
