Canada’s population will grow by more than a million people in 2022, the country’s statistics office said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The country now has -estimated- 39,566,248 inhabitants from 38,516,138 in 2021, an increase of 2.7% which is also the largest recorded since 1957.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The increase is attributed by the statistical office to the attraction of immigrants to address staff shortages, but also to reverse the aging population trend. 96% of this new population were immigrants from third countries<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The influx of population also has some effects, the statistical authority points out, related to housing, infrastructure and service provision.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Justin Trudeau’s government has tried to attract more immigrants to the country, with the goal of reaching 500,000 a year by 2025. Many are from war zones (such as Ukraine) or humanitarian crises (such as Turkey and Syria after the earthquake).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
